The Power of Connecting to Our Spiritual Aspects: A Guide to Avoid Escapism
The Power of Connecting to Our Spiritual Aspects: A Guide to Avoid Escapism
Spirituality in itself is a beautiful and powerful tool that can help us understand life better, tap into our inner wisdom, and create a sense of peace, balance and transformation. However, with the rise of stress, overwhelm, and uncertainty in our modern world, many people use spirituality as a form of escapism, a way to run away from reality and escape their problems. In this blog post, we will explore the reasons why people fall into spiritual escapism, its negative effects, and how to use spirituality as a means of enhancing our experience of life rather than avoiding it.
Seeking quick fixes and instant gratification:
One of the reasons why many people fall into spiritual escapism is the allure of quick fixes and instant gratification. The promise of a miracle cure, a magic spell, or an easy spiritual practice that can solve all our problems sounds tempting, but it's often a mirage. True spirituality is not about shortcuts, but about the long and rewarding journey of self-exploration, growth, transformation and self-responsibility.
Avoidance of discomfort and painful emotions:
Another common reason why people escape into spirituality is to avoid discomfort and painful emotions such as grief, fear, anxiety, or anger. While spirituality can provide comfort, support, and guidance in challenging times, it's important not to use it as a way to numb or suppress our feelings. Emotions are powerful messengers that can help us connect to our truth, heal old wounds, and evolve as human beings. When we deny or ignore them, we miss out on a valuable opportunity to learn and grow.
Lack of groundedness and connection to reality:
Spiritual escapism can also be a result of feeling disconnected from reality and lacking groundedness. When we are too focused on the spiritual realm and ignore the physical world, we may lose touch with our bodies, emotions, and relationships. This can lead to a sense of disorientation, confusion, and alienation. True spirituality is about integrating all aspects of ourselves and finding harmony between our inner and outer worlds.
Addiction to spiritual experiences and sensations:
Finally, spiritual escapism can stem from an addiction to spiritual experiences and sensations. When we become too attached to feeling blissful, mindful, or enlightened, we may forget that spirituality is not a destination but a journey. We can't always control when, how, or what we experience in our spiritual practice, and that's okay. The real magic happens when we learn to embrace both the highs and lows of our spiritual journey and use them as opportunities to learn, heal, and grow. As with anything, it is your relationship to the ‘thing’ that often deems it healthy or unhealthy.
Finally…
In conclusion, spirituality is a powerful and transformative tool that can enhance our experience of life and help us connect to our inner wisdom and purpose. However, when we use spirituality as a means of escapism, we miss out on its true potential and deny ourselves the chance to grow and evolve. By staying grounded, facing our emotions, connecting to reality, and releasing our attachment to spiritual experiences, we can use spirituality as a way to expand our consciousness, deepen our empathy, and live a more fulfilling life.
