Is This My Intuition… or Am I Just Spiralling?
(How to tell intuition vs. anxiety)

One of the questions people ask me most when they start paying attention to intuition is this:
“How do I know if it’s intuition… or if I’m just spiralling?”
Because sometimes the experience can feel confusing.
A feeling appears, your body reacts.
Your mind immediately starts trying to work out what it means.
Suddenly you're running through possibilities.
What if this is a sign?
What if I'm imagining it?
What if I'm about to make the wrong decision?
And the mind can get loud very quickly.
In my experience, the difference often comes down to pace.
Anxiety moves fast.
You can feel it physically when it happens.
Your chest tightens slightly, your thoughts start stacking on top of each other.
The whole system feels like it's rushing toward an answer.
Intuition behaves very differently.
It tends to arrive more gently (even if it is firm).
Sometimes it feels like a soft drop in the body. Your shoulders relax a little - some even sense it as a support guidance from coming behind their shoulder.
Your breathing deepens. There is an openness in the body.
You might notice a simple sense of direction before your mind has time to analyse it.
It may not come as a dramatic voice, but a quiet feeling that something inside you already knows which way feels right. That deeper knowing.
And then, a few seconds later, the mind arrives to question everything.
When people start paying attention to this difference, something interesting happens.
They realise their intuition has probably been speaking to them for years. They’ve just learned to doubt it faster than they could recognise it.
Over time, the work becomes less about trying to get intuitive messages and more about learning to trust the signals already moving through your body and awareness.
And when that trust grows, decisions begin to feel very different.
Less like guessing and more like listening.
Once people begin recognising the difference between anxiety and intuition, a second question usually appears.
Why does intuition feel easy to hear sometimes… and almost impossible at other times?
That usually has less to do with intuition itself and more to do with the state your nervous system is in.
I wrote more about that here:
